Look Down From On High

Each week on Sunday we're given the new theme for that week for our 52 week photo project. A typical timeline for me is to get the theme on Sunday and start brainstorming. Monday and Tuesday are the planning phase (props, outfits, locations, etc) and then Wednesday I'll usually shoot. Thursday is editing and then it'll be ready to post on Thursday or Friday. Yesterday morning right before we got to church, I was playing on my phone and the new theme came in: Bird's Eye View. I am terrified of heights, so I starting thinking of ideas a little closer to the ground (I mean, birds sit on the ground, right?). I had an idea that would keep me fairly close to the ground and be a lot of fun, but I would need a certain type of lighting and weather. I looked at my iPhone weather app and the rest of the week looked shaky at best and I found myself wishing I could find a day just like today...it was perfect outside...very cloudy and no rain. No time like the present! Made the kids go outside, dragged the ladder to the front yard, and the best day ever ensued! Not really...kids were cranky, bugs were out in full force, and the puppy briefly got away from my 9 year old. However, it went quickly and I'm pleased with the result....PLUS I now have an entire week to not worry about it. :)

Red

Paige and I drove out somewhere between Kansas and Missouri (not sure what side of the state line it fell on) to a field of flowers. I had been checking the weather and it was supposed to be cloudy...rainy even. We loaded up on balloons and went out to take a beautiful, calm photo of a young girl in a field of flowers holding a bunch of red balloons. (yes, this song is in my head: 99 Red Balloons). We get out there and the sun is blaring and the wind is basically tornadic. We might have been in Kansas, so that makes sense. :) She could barely stand up and her hair was flying in her face...the sun was so bright she couldn't keep her eyes open and the balloons were popping at about a rate of one every 30 seconds. So I just started shooting and well....not too shabby. These would definitely fall into a more artsy category than my usual shoots. I submitted the first photo for my photo project this week, but I love the other two also. My girl is SUCH a trooper!!

And off we go!

I'm so excited to finally get my blog up and running! I've wanted to start one for the longest time and I'm thrilled that I can combine my business site along with my ramblings. I'll try to keep most of my posts photography related. I'm a part of a 52 week photo project. Every week, on Sunday morning, we're given a new theme and we have that week to plan, photograph, edit, and submit a photo (we're actually allowed 2 submissions). This week's theme is: Red. I have a few ideas in the planning stage now, so I'll let you know when I finally decide what direction I'm going. Hopefully the weather will cooperate in the next few days.
Last week's theme was: tiny. I only submitted one photo, but I prepared two.

Tiny Dancer

My daughter finds herself in front of the camera more than my two boys. She's usually easier to bribe with an ice cream. ;) My oldest son hates being in front of the camera (like me), and my 2 year old....well, he's two. Need I say more? We did just add a new member to our family this past weekend. I'd love to introduce you to Harry. I have a feeling you'll see a great deal more of this little guy in the days to come.

Thanks for stopping by and I look forward to starting on this journey!
